Use Tab and Shift+Tab to move keyboard focus forwards and backwards. To activate a button, move keyboard focus onto it and press Space or Enter. To move a slider, such as the cycle marker, move keyboard focus onto it and use the arrow keys. If using a screen reader, use your screen reader's navigation functionality to navigate Soundtrap pages.
At the top of the page, there is a "Skip to main content" link, which moves focus directly to the main content and skips the navigation links.
Use the Up and Down Arrow keys to move through lists such as:
- Messages page conversation list
- Messages page chat
- Dropdown menus
- Radio button groups
Dialog and Menu Navigation
Dialogs trap keyboard focus — Tab and Shift+Tab wrap within the dialog, and pressing Escape closes it and returns focus to the element that opened it.
The menu bar supports arrow key navigation:
- Left and Right move between top-level items
- Up and Down move within a menu
- Right opens a submenu
- Left or Escape closes it
Dropdown menus use:
- Up and Down to navigate options
- Enter to select
-
Escape to close
Focus visibility
Focus outlines appear when navigating with Tab or arrow keys and are hidden during mouse or trackpad use. This is intentional — if you switch from mouse to keyboard, the focus outline will reappear as soon as you press Tab.
Keyboard Operability
In addition to standard keyboard navigation, Soundtrap provides keyboard shortcuts for many Studio actions. For a complete and up-to-date list of available shortcuts, see Keyboard shortcuts.
The space key and the enter key function as keyboard shortcuts for other studio functionality if a mouse or trackpad is used. It only becomes possible to use them to click buttons after performing keyboard navigation using tab or shift+tab.
