Will it be possible to turn off Collaborations and auto saving?
Will this be an added feature for the future? Since after the latest updates it has become a real hassle to work in Soundtrap and the auto saving feature keeps saving empty projects every time i open the a new one or want to test something quick. :)

+1 on this request. Please make the auto save optional.
It is really annoying to trigger a new auto-mastering just because you accidentally changed something. The explicit save gives you a stable point to return to if you happen to mess things up.
This is almost a deal breaker for me using Soundtrap.

I, too have problems with this autosave feature, I recently made a new track and I liked the way it was, I was experimenting on what to add to it though, what I didnt notice was I cut off a part of a new region, and it autosaved, I was unable to retrieve it was frustrated all morning.. Yes it can be useful for forgetful people, but its also a curse its so annoying. makes everything lag too.

Hey guys, thank you for sharing your thoughts!
The team behind Soundtrap is always working on improving and building new features and tools for you to use. Your suggestions are important to us because it helps inform future decisions, so we’ll pass your idea on.
Make sure you’re always in the loop about new features and other announcements by enabling Soundtrap news and updates on your account's settings. -
Today this feature totally destroyed a recording for me. I opened a project on the app (Iphone) and it could not load the tracks in the studio (which also happens all the time, btw). Tha app happily announced that it had saved this version, though, and now the previously existing tracks are gone.
Please turn the auto save off until you have made it possible to opt out.

I'm not joking, the autosave feature is progressively getting worse. The things I add/change to my project keeps retracting to its earlier arrangement before the "saving" icon saves. It also adds lag to my pc, I dont have a good pc and soundtrap was really great for producing music until this autosave feature got out of hand. Least you could do is the ability to turn it off PLEASE!

Hi guys, thank you for reaching out!
At present, turning off the autosave is currently unavailable. This feature was added to ensure that unsaved project data won't get lost in the event that a user accidentally closed his/her file due to unexpected power outages or device system issues.
If you prefer the old version where you need to manually save your project, an available workaround is to make a copy of an old project (projects made before December 2022) with manual save feature, duplicate your old, delete all existing tracks and use it as as template. This way, you can still utilize the manual save function even if you create new arrangements/beats/recordings.Hope this helps for the meantime :)

Please allow us to downgrade to non-autosave easily, or turn it off (the "workaround" posted is horrible. Create a copy of an old project then hand import everything back in?) The worst part for me is getting emails that something has changed when nothing has! It used to be awesome to get an email when a collaborator had made a change, now it is useless and depressing.

In no way is this a solution. Autosave should be the most basic thing to be able to opt out of. There is zero reason to make it unable to be turned off. I will like the way a mix sounds, experiment with it, try to undo, but i can only undo up to about 3 steps because it autosaved seconds before. Forcing autosave is the worst thing you have done to this platform. Please fix it.

Hi again,
I’m sorry, but this is not good enough. But to be constructive I have some suggestions.
It seems that when I create my Soundtrap project by clicking “Open in Soundtrap” in Noteflight, I get the old style project with an explicit save button. I don’t know if this also means I miss out on other features, but it seems that it at least is possible to create new projects with explicit save functionality. I didn’t do this enough times to know if it is always the case, though.
Also, it seems that there is some a-b testing going on, as one of my collaborators swears that she still gets the old version when she creates a project.
1. Why not make this a choice when creating a project?
2. If turning the feature off is too hard for some reason, could you then add explicit snapshots or save points? Currently you can revert to earlier revisions, but the save points are pretty randomly chosen, and might not match a good place to revert to since you might lose important stuff, such as recording another track. For me, this would be an even better solution than opting out. You can sell this internally by labeling it as an added feature rather than revering something.
3. Storing the event history of the project, so I could “undo” even if I reopen the project would also be good enough, but this would mean storing more data, so I don’t think this is a good solution for technical reasons.
I’d love to discuss this with your developers or product owners btw, so feel free to contact me offline.

I hate to add to this thread, as everyone else has shared opinions that I definitely agree with. But this auto save feature is quite the hassle for me and really affects my workflow.
Whenever I want to collaborate with another artist -- usually someone who uses FL Studio or Ableton -- I will merge each of my tracks, export each one, and then discard the changes. The manual save button made it so I could decide to "un-save" the merging of everything and still preserve my original project. But with the auto save, I have to merge track, export, and immediately delete the merged track. There are only so many times you can undo a decision until it refuses to undo and you're stuck.
Right now, I'm working on an EP. I have finished a song the other day. I made small changes and made sure the "Saving.... Saved!" on the top panel showed up. Seeing that, for me at least, confirms that they are saving my work. However, when pressing the Export button on the top right, it was stuck on "Preparing..." and has been for two days. I go home to the Projects section, and the auto saved version has portions of the song just erased as if it were not there. Here is an example: https://streamable.com/fz71rb
I know Soundtrap is an app that updates its UI and features quite frequently, but this auto save thing is not making music production any easier that it was before. Even though Jethro's suggestion to repurpose older projects without the auto save feature isn't the most ideal, it'll have to do for me. I use Soundtrap all the time and that seems like the "only option" if the auto save feature keeps bugging out my projects.
Thank you and please consider the change back to manual saving!

Auto-save is impeding my ability to work with this DAW. I can't even use the "add version" feature anymore. I can click the button, give it a title and hit "save", but it doesn't show up under the list of previous versions. Even if it switches from "saving..." to "saved!", say, 10 times, and I look through the previous versions, I'll see maybe 4 saves total. When I come back to an auto-saving project, it's a crapshoot whether multiple tracks or effects will be missing. Oftentimes, I'll have audio tracks (usually most of the vocals) fail to show up in the final mix. It wasn't a good idea to force this buggy feature on us with no real way to opt out.
And I agree with tobias.lindahl - there are many other options y'all could go with instead. We shouldn't need workarounds like duplicating a project from before the rollout (which doesn't even seem to be a failsafe anymore, as of July 2023 - I used a scrapped project from 2020 as a template for a new song today, only for it to somehow have the autosave feature tacked onto it as well). This new feature just needs to undergo enough changes to make it non-obtrusive. With all the issues and losses it's causing, it's not worth waiting around without knowing whether we'll see an improvement anytime soon.
I'm still a bit vexed right now, so I hope this comment makes sense and doesn't come off like an incoherent rant, but...Soundtrap team, please listen to your userbase. The autosave feature, in its current state, is an obstacle that does more harm than good for a lot of us. And for a good number of users, it's an issue that has been going on for months. All we need is an actual fix of some kind, not a cookie-cutter response that doesn't even let us know whether you're paying attention to what we have to say.

autosaving has completely ruined the ability to just playfully tinker with your songs without finalizing each any every minor change. it's idiotic to have an artistic program have an auto-save you can't turn off. the only thing you can do is make a million "Save As" branches in order to make the unpaid version usable.
