I can't shorten notes!

I never was able to shorten notes. Whenever I put a note in the grid, it goes super LONG and I can't shorten it. Please help!

  Your zoomed out so it isn't showing all the measures, it's probably skipping a few. I had the same problem and felt dumb when I discovered

  i disabled the snap-to-grid system and i was able to shorten it.
