Importing Movies Clips

Agreed!  In my district, we need a video editor that works on Chromebooks, which we have been unable to find for a reasonable price.  So if this would be HUGE if Soundtrap could incorporate even a simple video editor.

I have seen Soundtrap's use grow rapidly in the music teaching fraternity and therefore believe that this should be a priority for development, as many schools explore music and moving image as part of the curriculum. Unfortunately, the solution suggested above just isn't compatible with this discipline. Proper time syncronisation between picture and sound is vital within the DAW. My students are cross-operating system in my current school, but if I were to work again in a Mac-only environment I'd turn to Garage Band or Logic over Soundtrap, purely for the benefits of being able to work with film.

I agree with the comments listed above.

Soundtrap does a great job presenting a versatile but relatively simple DAW that students can learn and thrive in. When we went to the current rush to Distance learning, I had to leave my Mac Lab at school and find an alternative for GarageBand. Soundtrap provides most of what I need to replace GB EXCEPT for the lack of video importing, exporting, and inputting. That eliminates the entire video scoring aspects of my course. I urge Soundtrap to incorporate video importing ASAP.

Thanks for everything that you are already doing!

Maybe an external soundtrap movieplayer, that could be triggered thru soundtrap?

Same here.  It would be wonderful if this could be done on Soundtrap one day.

We make film music at the moment, and just a tiny little cue-movie player would be great. A mixdown to movie-editor is not an option, as we want to listen and change the sounds and instrumentation to see how it affects the movies scene.

Soundtrap is used a lot in education, and this has to be an essential and basic feature!

Agree, this is absolutely essential for my school too, I should have checked this was a feature so may have to stop my subscription.

I cannot agree more with all of these comments.

I too, have paid a yearly subscription to use sound trap in the classroom in our school.

My 1st, 2nd and 3rd year students are trying to manage writing a score for film using their phone and a laptop. I really would like to see sound trap push for this. You have no idea what an integral part of the new JC music course this is and how many institutions would be very interested in it.

Please please keep us posted if you do manage to find a solution.

Thanks for endorsing the need for this Miriam. Unfortunately, I have lost faith in Soundtrap's commitment to listen to anything posted in this thread. We will be pursuing Garageband and Apple products instead of Soundtrap as of the next academic year. What a shame, a big opportunity missed on ST's part in my honest opinion.

Has there been any progress on importing movie files into soundtrap? This would be such a huge development for educators everywhere.

I too teach a film music course at my school and would be overjoyed if this is added in the future.

Hi, great question. Right now, Soundtrap doesn't support working on videos as we're focused on audio production needs. You can however, make a complete soundtrack (& effects) from films from within Soundtrap, and then import them in video editing programs. If there's ever any news about adding video into the studio, we'll be sure to let you know.

If there's anything else, message us. We'd love to help :)
