Issues with Piano Roll

When I try to use the piano roll, I am unable to create individual notes or melodies, it only makes long tones. I can lengthen them, but after that, I can't even shorten them without deleting the entire note. This problem only seems to be happening with my account, the piano roll on my classmates' and teacher's accounts work normally. I would like to know how to fix this as soon as possible, thanks
