This is the time it takes from your input (e.g. guitar or mic) to your output (speakers or headphones).
Latency varies depending on which type of device and operating system you use. In most cases, Mac OS is more likely to experience less latency compared to other operating systems such as Windows or Chromebook.
Latency tips:
- Instead of using your computer’s built-in mic: use external mic to improve latency
-
For Windows users, tweak the following settings:
- Use a high-quality USB microphone with low-latency audio capabilities — using a USB 3.0-compatible microphone with a USB 3.0 port on your computer will give the lowest latency.
- Reduce buffer size in your audio interface settings to a lower value, between 64 and 128 samples.
- For Mac Users:
- Use an audio interface that supports Core Audio.
-
Use the Soundtrap desktop app — available from the “Download Soundtrap for Mac” link on https://www.soundtrap.com/home/ when logged in.
-
For Chromebook users:
- Use a high-quality USB microphone with low-latency audio capabilities.

I'm using a Steinberg interface with a chromebook. Any suggestions for how to minimize latency? Is there some way of reducing the buffer size in Soundtrap?
